Who We Are

Rooted in East Texas, driven by love for the breed

I'm Susan, the breeder behind Toledo Bend Cavaliers, in Hemphill, Texas on the shores of Toledo Bend Lake. Our pups aren't pets, they're family members — born and raised in the home, microchipped, vaccinated, and both parents fully DNA tested to ensure the best health.

My mother bred Collies and Pomeranians while I was growing up, and the first pups I raised myself were my two Cocker Spaniels, Sam and Lola, in 2006. I stepped away when I returned to work, and came back to breeding when I retired from the state in 2024 — this time with Cavaliers.

Every litter is whelped and raised inside our home, surrounded by children, other animals, and the everyday sounds of family life. Our puppies leave us fully socialised, confident, and ready to bond with their new families.

We do not breed for profit, but to share the love and companionship these pups have to offer. Before we bred a single litter we made sure Percy and Willeaux were in the best possible shape, and every puppy we place is backed by a one-year health guarantee.

AKC DNA and Health tested

A health-tested Toledo Bend Cavalier

Our health testing is carried out by our own veterinarian (rDVM) and is breeder-reported rather than registered with the OFA. Good Dog rates our testing at their "Good" level. We are glad to share any result with you — just ask.

In Susan’s Words

Questions we are asked most

The same answers we give on our Good Dog profile, in full.

Why did you start breeding?

Growing up, my mom bred Collies and Pomeranians, but the first pups I ever bred were my two Cocker Spaniels, Sam and Lola, in 2006. Being a stay-at-home mom allowed me to give them the full attention and care they required. I took a break after rejoining the workforce and did not start breeding again until I retired from the state in 2024.

What makes your program special?

Our breeding program is special because of the extreme level of care we have for our babies. Before beginning the breeding process, we made sure the parents, Percy and Willeaux, were in the best possible shape and had several tests run to ensure perfect health for them and their future pups. We do not breed for profit, but to share the love and companionship these pups have to offer.

What coat colours are in your program?

Our puppies are Blenheim. Colours will vary depending on the parent dogs.

Where do your breeding dogs live?

They live in my home.

Our Values

What we believe in

Home-Raised

Every litter is whelped and raised in our living room — not a kennel. Our puppies know what home life feels like from day one.

Health First

We invest in comprehensive health testing because no puppy should ever suffer from a preventable condition.

Careful Placement

We screen every applicant thoughtfully. The right match matters as much to us as it does to the families we work with.

Lifetime Support

Our relationship does not end at pick-up. We are here for the life of your dog — for questions, advice and support.
